Double Phelix is a 2,500 square foot recording studio located in the River’s Edge neighborhood of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The studio is owned and operated by Andy Catlin and Ben Lau. Andy and Ben have produced, mixed, and mastered hundreds of recordings for a wide variety of clients. Both are accomplished instrumentalists and love to lend their talents to projects.
Double Phelix is equipped to produce hi-fidelity modern recordings for music, commercials, and film. While we possess industry standard digital recording capabilities, Double Phelix is passionate about analog sound and vintage instruments. Via 1" tape machine, 8-track cassette, creative engineers, and diverse collection of keyboards, guitars, amps and mics, we create a truly exciting sound amidst the endless array of clinical, digital production facilities.
There is no other affordable, professional analog studio of our kind in Michigan. We use our rooms for reverb and our tape for compression. Our organs generate sound with tone wheels, not digital synthesis. Recent clients have included Frontier Ruckus,
Luke Winslow-King, Seth Bernard, The Go Rounds, and Small Houses.
