Kalamazoo Public Library serves the City of Kalamazoo, Oshtemo and Kalamazoo townships through a Central Library in downtown Kalamazoo and four neighborhood branch libraries. Most libraries in adjacent communities agree to reciprocal arrangements so that their residents may also borrow materials from KPL

KPL offers an extensive popular collection with a growing number of digitally downloaded print and audio books, the Kalamazoo County Law Library, ONEplace@kpl—a nonprofit management support center, free wifi, 100+ public computers, and special equipment for patrons with low vision.

KPL’s Local History Room features a database of more than two million citations to local publications dating to the 19th century. KPL also created and maintains a Local Organization Directory of nearly 900 Kalamazoo County agencies, associations, religious organizations, special interest groups, and service clubs.

The library leads several community collaborations, including Reading Together, a "one book" community reading program. KPL also contributes to a wide range of community initiatives, working with a variety of organizations—schools, higher education, civic, cultural and legal organizations, human services, foundations, nonprofits, and businesses.

Year-round events for all ages feature author visits, book discussions, concerts, films, art displays, topical presentations, plus storytimes, gaming, crafts, and other programs designed for kids, tweens, teens, and families.
