    One of Kalamazoo’s long standing traditions and is offered each Sunday through June, July and August, area musicians from Kalamazoo and the surrounding region perform in an outdoor setting in Bronson Park. Providing the nostalgia of an outdoor music event,...

    2017 Concerts in the Park 

    One of Kalamazoo’s long standing traditions and is offered each Sunday through June, July and August, area musicians from Kalamazoo and the surrounding region perform in an outdoor setting in Bronson Park. Providing the nostalgia of an outdoor music event, the diversity of performers and selections delivers a unique offering unlike other concert series in Kalamazoo.

    Each concert is free, and is friendly for the entire family. Bringing picnic meals (no grilling allowed), blankets or lawn chairs is encouraged. Each concert begins at 4pm and the concerts’ rain location is First United Methodist Church, just across from Bronson Park (unless otherwise noted). Notice will be posted on the Arts Council's Facebook page if the concert is moved indoors due to inclement weather.

    2017 Schedule

    June 4 - Kalamazoo Singers

    Celebrating their 40th season, the Kalamazoo Singers under the direction of Rick Phelps, has some of the finest vocalists in the area.  Their concert will feature favorites from this year of programs as well as several stirring patriotic pieces.

    June 11 - Red Sea Pedestrians

    The Red Sea Pedestrians are a one-of-a-kind, full-blown, instrument-swapping fusion between tradition and the here-and-now. We’re talkin’ high-energy world-beat grooves, hypnotic laments from the earth, songs of celebration and wonder, all filtered through the band’s original vision.

    June 18 - Kalamazoo Concert Band

    The Kalamazoo Concert Band, an adult wind and percussion instrumental ensemble, under the direction of Assistant Conductor Brian Shetterly, will present a varied program of Marches, Overtures, Broadway and Pop Music sure to keep your toes tappin’!

    June 25 - Susan Harrison Band

    Song slinger Susan Harrison's soulful, bluesy, jazzy pop rocks with quirky, hopeful characters that come to life as they drag you to the dance floor. With music from Motown to Country and many stops along the way. Enjoy the journey!

    July 9 - K'zoo Folklife Music Festival at Overlander Bandshell in Portage

    Enjoy an afternoon of Bluegrass and Americana music provided by the K’zoo Folklife Organization. The Music Festival will include live entertainment from nine talented bands and performers from the greater Kalamazoo area. The event will be held on the lawn area in front of the Overlander Bandshell. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy great music and concessions during the event.

    July 16 - Outer Vibe

    Building on Michigan’s storied rock and pop legacy, The Outer Vibe has long pushed the envelope for live performances with its ultra-animated stagecraft, audience-involving antics, and infectious beats.

    July 23 - Motor City Women & Detroit Express

    Captivating, outstanding, energetic are just a few adjectives that describe the nine-piece band Motor City Women.  Offering several unique styles from Blues to Pop, Funk to Folk, and Country to Rock. ensemble; they are incredible!  Motor City Women boasts years of musical experience that guarantees an entertainment experience like no other!

    July 30 - The Verve Pipe

    With a reputation for spectacular live performances, the genesis of multi-platinum artist The Verve Pipe can be traced back to the early 90s when the principal members of two rival Michigan bands joined forces.  Verve Pipe is known for  its textured rock songs distinguished by innovative arrangements, soul-searching lyrics and layered vocals.

    August 6 - Keith Hall & Nashon Holloway 

    Drummer Keith Hall brings a joyful mix of soul, Gospel, R&B, blues and jazz to Kalamazoo.  Featuring singer/songwriter Nashon Holloway with her dynamic and soulful approach, Bronson Park will feel the vibe of cool jazz on a hot Sunday afternoon!

    August 13 – Sidewalk Chalk

    Named "Most Outstanding Group" at the 2014 Chicago Music Awards, Sidewalk Chalk continues to lead the contemporary evolution of hip-hop, soul, and jazz. The band’s roots are firmly planted in Chicago where all eight members bring their respective talents together to update a sound first heralded in the Native Tongues era but never so musically diverse.

    August 20 – Schlitz Creek

    From the mountains of Kalamazoo, the Schlitz Creek Bluegrass Band presents an exciting, high energy show featuring both traditional and contemporary bluegrass music. Instrumentals, vocal harmonies and down home style humor  have made Schlitz Creek a favorite in the S.W. Michigan area for folks of all ages.

    August 27 - Community Arts Awards with Kalamazoo Children's Chorus

    The nationally renowned Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus started as a single choir and now if five choirs strong.  We are honored to have members of each of these choirs perform for the 2017 Community Arts Awards presentation.
