The KBAC is a federally recognized nonprofit organization that was incorporated in September 2005 by a group of fine artists and writers who joined together to create a community workshop and educational center dedicated to furthering the arts of book design and printing, fine printmaking, papermaking, bookbinding, and creative writing. We believe Kalamazoo, with its history of papermaking, printing, and liberal arts education, is the ideal location to establish a center for the study and production of books, fine prints, and handmade paper. There is an extraordinarily active community of artists and writers in Kalamazoo, including locally, nationally, and internationally recognized printmakers, papermakers, book designers, poets, and novelists. We established the KBAC to provide a resource for this diverse group of individuals, to serve as a learning center for the general public, to act as a resource for the local schools, and to teach these creative disciplines to a wider audience.
